New Test Shows Aiya Ceremonial Matcha Contains 105 Times More Antioxidant Than Blueberries

NIS Labs has developed a new test called CAP-e. Cap-e stands for Cell-based Antioxidant Protection in erythrocytes. This test evaluates the antioxidant potential of a substance. This Cell-based test goes beyond the ORAC test by determining whether a substance has true bioavailability. The CAP-e test measures how much of the antioxidants the body actually absorbs in order to protect our red blood cells from oxidation.

The CAP-e test shows that Aiya Ceremonial Matcha scored 37 GAE (Gallic Acid Equivalent) units on a per gram basis. In a traditional bowl of Matcha the serving size is 2 grams, thus making a total value of 74 GAE units per serving of Matcha.*

Compare Matcha to blueberries, another antioxidant rich food. According to NIS Labs 120 grams of blueberries make up a serving. On a per serving basis blueberries scored 42 GAE units on the CAP-e test. On a per gram basis that is equivalent to 0.35 GAE units. Matcha on a per gram basis is 105 times more effective than blueberries, and based on a serving size Matcha is over 56% more efficient than blueberries.

According to Fumi Sugita, General Manager at Aiya America, "Aiya conducted an ORAC test about 6 years ago and the results showed Matcha green tea contains high amounts of antioxidants, but now with the CAP-e test we confirmed that our body actually absorbs the antioxidants from Matcha green tea.
